When specifying an epe foam net machine, one of the first technical questions buyers ask is the maximum net diameter the line can extrude. The answer is not a single number-it scales with screw size, die-head design, and whether the machine is a standard fruit-net line or a heavy-duty tube/rod variant. A typical commercial epe foam net machine for apple and pear sleeves (75-type) handles finished net diameters from 20 mm up to 150 mm, while larger 90–105 mm screw lines push the ceiling to 80–100 mm as routine, and up to 160 mm on wide-bore die configurations.
For context, common 75-type fruit-net models (e.g., FCEPEW-75A) are catalogued with a foam net diameter range of 20–150 mm; the 65-type sits lower at roughly 15–115 mm max, and the 90-type reaches up to 250 mm max net diameter in supplier spec sheets. These figures refer to the relaxed circular sleeve diameter after extrusion and cooling, not the flat-width or die-bore measurement.
The diameter ceiling is decided by three things on an epe foam net machine: screw throughput, rotary die inner mandrel size, and haul-off/sizing sleeve capacity. A 75 mm screw at 30–40 kg/h physically cannot sustain a 140 mm watermelon net at high line speed-foam expansion thins the wall and the mesh collapses. That is why small fruit nets (apple 30–40 mm, citrus 25–35 mm) run comfortably on a 75-type, while melon or pumpkin nets (60–120 mm) want a 90-type or 105-type epe foam net machine with a bigger die head and reinforced internal air sizing.
It is also worth separating "net" from "tube." Many EPE foam machines are dual-purpose: same extruder, swapped die. As a foam tube/rod line, a 75-type handles 20–60 mm OD, a 90-type 20–80 mm OD, and a 120-type up to 120 mm OD. When the same frame runs fruit netting, the open mesh structure allows a slightly larger relaxed diameter than a closed tube of equal die, but the practical fruit-net ceiling stays within the die family limits above.
Buyers often mistake "max die bore" for "max finished net." A die may have a 90 mm mandrel, but butane foaming and drawdown typically yield a relaxed sleeve 10–20% smaller unless you slow the line and raise foam ratio. So a supplier quoting "max 150 mm" on a 75-type epe foam net machine means occasional low-speed jumbo nets, not continuous production-steady shift work usually tops out at 80–100 mm on that screw class.
In short, a standard 75-type epe foam net machine reliably covers 20–100 mm sleeves (apple to small melon), a 90-type covers up to ~120 mm, and 105–120-type heavy lines reach 140–160 mm for watermelon and large gourd nets. Choose screw class by your largest daily SKU, not the brochure's peak number-running near the diameter ceiling cuts speed 30–50% and raises scrap.
