Does a Fruit Net Machine Support Both Tubular and Sleeve Nets?
A common question from first-time buyers is whether a single fruit net machine can produce both tubular nets and sleeve nets, or whether these are two different product categories requiring separate equipment. The practical answer is: on a standard EPE foam fruit net machine, "tubular" and "sleeve" are not two machines-they are the same continuous extruded product described at different stages. The machine extrudes a continuous tubular foam mesh through a rotating die; that tubular net is then cut to length to become an individual sleeve (or left on the roll as tubular netting). So yes, one fruit net machine inherently supports both forms.
The distinction buyers often confuse is shape-after-processing, not machine type. A vertical EPE fruit net machine keeps the net cylindrical during extrusion by blowing internal air and using a sizing sleeve, so the output stays a round tube ready to slip over an apple or pear-this is what the market calls a "sleeve net" once cut. If the same line runs without internal air support, or the puller flattens it after cooling, the same tubular mesh comes out as a flattened net belt, sometimes still called tubular in roll form. Either way, the fruit net machine itself does not change; only the air knife, sizing sleeve, and haul-off settings differ.
Switching between net diameters or rib counts (4-rib vs 6-rib vs 8-rib) is done by swapping the rotary die head and mandrel, not by buying a new fruit net machine. A 75-type line with quick-change die heads can, within 20–40 minutes, move from 30 mm apple sleeves to 60 mm melon sleeves, or from tight-mesh citrus sleeves to open coarse tubular net for bottle wrapping. Foam ratio (butane injection) and haul-off speed then tune mesh openness, while the die decides strand count and diameter.
Where the line draws a real boundary is product family, not tubular-vs-sleeve. The same extruder base can, with different die and auxiliaries, also make EPE foam pipe, rod, or pad-but that is a die-family change, not a tubular/sleeve split. Tubular net and cut sleeve are always the same SKU on a fruit net machine; the only variable is whether you wind it on a roll or auto-cut it into pieces before packing.
For a buyer, the purchasing checklist should therefore be: confirm the fruit net machine uses a rotary die with interchangeable heads, has an internal air-blow option for keeping cylinder shape, and includes a meter-counter with optional auto-cutter if you want ready-made sleeves instead of rolls. With those features, one machine covers apple sleeves, citrus tubular net on roll, bottle sleeves, and watermelon nets without a second capital outlay.
In short, a fruit net machine does support both tubular and sleeve nets-because a sleeve is simply a cut length of the tubular net the machine already extrudes. The real flexibility question is die interchangeability and whether you add an auto-cutter, not whether the machine can do both forms.
